Whether you're continuing your collection or starting today, welcome to the Memento Mori Collection. This is number four of six in the Dead Presidents Series.

Memento Mori (remember you must die) is the oldest wake-up call in human history.

So we asked ourselves:

What’s the most powerful way to express that idea in physical form?

The answer was hiding in American history.

Hobo Nickel Art

During the Great Depression, men rode freight trains with nothing but loose change and a knife in their pocket.

Out of desperation and creativity, they carved buffalo nickels into raw, expressive works of art — skulls, faces, and characters.

Danthoms, CC Wikimedia Commons

Today, those hand-carved nickels are highly sought-after American folk art.

This is our modern take.

The Dead Presidents Series

Each coin reimagines an iconic presidential portrait through that raw hobo nickel lens — skull, vertebrae, suit, and all.

  • Designed in Detroit, Michigan
  • Limited to 100 per edition
  • Unique serial number engraved on the top edge

Here are the specs of the Jefferson edition:

  • Diameter: 1.5 inches
  • Thickness: 4.5 mm
  • Weight: 25 grams
  • Material: Premium copper-zinc alloy
  • Strike: CNC die-struck in low relief
  • Finish: Antique silver, sandblasted + brushed

Now, take a second…really look at it.

The Jefferson Edition has an oversized presence in the hand, with deep antiquing and dimensional relief that bring the design to life.

Flip it over…

At first glance, the design echoes the iconic Monticello reverse.

Look closer above the building and you’ll see we swapped E PLURIBUS UNUM for MEMENTO MORI.

The rest stayed untouched. The hobo nickel guys rarely altered the reverse. It felt right to keep that tradition.

Now, tilt it toward you and notice the top edge.

That’s where you’ll find your serial number.

Flip it back to the front and you’ll catch details like this…

1826—the year Jefferson died.

Look at the texture and lettering…

Pure eye candy.

And here’s an easter egg…

A tiny "GH" maker's mark in the Monticello.

Every detail on this piece was intentional.

Included with The Jefferson Edition

Every serious collection needs a paper trail.

Your Jefferson Edition includes a soft-touch Certificate of Authenticity, individually matched to your coin and hand-numbered in gold lettering.

The reverse tells Jefferson’s story and the meaning behind the collection.

How Pricing Works

The Dead Presidents Series is released one coin at a time:

  • Lincoln (Sold out)
  • Washington (Sold out)
  • JFK (Sold out)
  • Jefferson (Current)
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • Ben Franklin

Their death year sets the price:

  • Lincoln (1865) - $65
  • Washington (1799) - $99
  • JFK (1963) - $63
  • Jefferson (1826) - $26
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt (1945) - $45
  • Ben Franklin (1790) - $90

That’s an average cost of just $64.67 across the full six-coin set.

How Serial Numbers Are Assigned

The Jefferson Edition drops on Tuesday, September 29th at 12:00 PM EST.

Your serial number is assigned the moment your order is placed. The earlier you check out, the lower your number.

Started with Lincoln?

If you own a serialized Lincoln Edition, we’ll continue to do our best to match your original serial number throughout the Dead Presidents Series.

Only 100 serialized Jefferson Editions will ever be made.

Once they're gone, they're gone.

Be ready on September 29th at 12 PM EST.

Maximum 2 per customer.

Your Satisfaction is Guaranteed

Good enough Jefferson

I’ve bought every coin in this collection and I was very disappointed in the Jefferson coin. It’s very lightweight compared to the others and feels like plastic. It just feels cheap. I’m giving one star because when I emailed my concerns to GearHanks they said “ The production team interpreted the specs differently than I intended this time.” if that was the case then the coins should have been sent back and done right. We all ended up with a coin that wasn’t what GearHanks designed or intended it to be. The decision “it’s good enough “ was what we got. My question is how often does this kind of decision get made before proceeding to offer your items for sale.

Hi Bryan,

Thank you for supporting the entire Dead Presidents series. We're sorry the Jefferson Edition didn't meet your expectations.

You're correct that Jefferson has a lighter feel than the earlier coins. Each edition has been slightly different in weight, relief, and finish.

To answer your question, we carefully evaluate each edition before offering it for sale. Although Jefferson came out lighter than intended, we were pleased with the finished coin and confident in our decision to release it.

As mentioned in our earlier email, we're happy to accept your coin back for a full refund. Just email us and we'll take care of it.

Thank you again for your support and feedback.
